Are You Working God’s “Garden”?

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” (Genesis 2:15, NIV)

The Garden of Eden was beautiful. It was the kind of place we would dream of for our vacations. Besides the obvious physical beauty, it was also a place of peace and rest, joy, gladness, thanksgiving, and singing (Isaiah 51:3). It was the perfect place designed by our perfect creator!

Yet, God decided this perfect place needed a gardener. Why? Couldn’t He take care of it Himself? Of course He could, but He understood that we need work for fulfillment. The work we do, no matter what it is, is a blessing from Him. His desire is for us to “garden” our workplaces. He has provided our places of employment. It’s up to us to fertilize them, get rid of the weeds, and help them grow to their full potential. As long as we stay focused on Him, His light will provide the energy we need to succeed.

Our workplaces may not be as peaceful and restful as the Garden of Eden (up until the fall), but they should be places of thanksgiving. Take a minute this Tuesday to thank the Lord for all of your many blessings – especially for your job! If you are out of work, be patient … God has a special “garden” just for you! Enjoy your day, “Working for Christ”!
