Wisdom!

“For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” (James 3:16:17, NIV)

James touches on two types of wisdom – one that destroys and one that builds up.

When we envy another person or someone else’s life, or when we live solely for our own selfish ambitions, we don’t care who gets in our way or what it takes to get what we want. Our “success” is all that matters! We come first before anything else! We don’t care who gets hurt just as long as we get what we want!

Then there are those who value others above themselves. They seek peace above conflict. They’re considerate of others. They are submissive, full of mercy and goodness, impartial, and sincere. They care about the feelings of others. They refuse to walk over anyone to “get ahead”. They care for others more than they care for themselves. Success to them means living in the footsteps of Christ Jesus! They know what it means to find true peace and happiness in this crazy, mixed-up world! Envy and self-ambition are nowhere to be found.

Consider your own life. Which type of wisdom do you possess? Are you living for yourself and your own selfish ambitions or are you living for others? It’s never too late to change. Enjoy your Wednesday, “Working for Christ”!
