“The race is not to the swift
or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all. Moreover, no one knows when their hour will come: As fish are caught in a cruel net, or birds are taken in a snare, so people are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly upon them.” (Ecclesiastes 9:11-12, NIV)

We have absolutely no choice as to when we will be born or when we will die. We have no choice as to whether we will be born to wealthy parents or poor parents. We have no choice in determining whether we will be born with a high IQ or an average IQ. We have no choice as to whether we are born as citizens of the United States or whether we are born into one of the poorest villages of Africa. These things all happen by “time and chance” according to God’s will.

But now that we have grown, we are capable of making many of our own choices. We still don’t know when our final hour will come and we still can’t choose when “evil times” will fall upon us, but we can choose how we live our lives each and every day. We can choose to live according to our human nature and remain in sin, or we can choose to follow Christ Jesus into eternity. It is totally our choice!

Choose wisely this Friday! Enjoy your weekend, “Working for Christ”!
