“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” (Galatians 5:13, NASB)

“When you give a reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind…” (Luke 14:13, NASB)

Our Christian “calling” is not a one time, life-altering experience that we are anxiously awaiting. It’s an ongoing accumulation of obedient discipline to God. Depending on the stage of our personal development, God will shape our call. We need to allow Him to work through us daily and to depend on Him to help us live according to the fruit of the Spirit. That fruit, “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23, NASB) may seem at odds with the world around us, but it is very much-needed throughout society, especially in our workplaces!

Is there "free will" in heaven? What...

When God created us, He designed us with free will. His wish was for us to choose God-honoring decisions every day – decisions to love and serve one another, decisions to care for those in need.

The Scriptures cited above emphasize the strong characteristics of a Christian in the workplace. “You shouldn’t pursue selfish ambition”, says the Galatians text; rather, “show love and serve one another”. The text found in Luke is a guide for service, teaching that we should help disadvantaged people – the poor, the disabled, the lame, and the blind.

We can honor God by living according to His word – by making a choice to live every day for the wellbeing of others. By doing so, our lives will become more complete and our relationship with our Heavenly Father will become stronger than ever. The work we do each week will have new purpose and deeper meaning.

Enjoy your Tuesday, Working for Christ”!
