“Don’t be afraid, I’ve redeemed you. I’ve called your name. You’re mine. When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you. When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down. When you’re between a rock and a hard place, it won’t be a dead end …” (Isaiah 43:1–2, The Message)

Many Christians are fumbling through their lives and their jobs without God. What has happened? Why do we think we can go through life without including God every step of the way? All too often, the demands of our jobs pull us away from what God wants for us. We slowly drift away by making poor choices and developing bad habits that may seem harmless in the beginning – like stretching the truth about hours on a time sheet, working late while family members’ needs go unmet, or simply getting so focused on work that we no longer have time to consider the most important things in our lives.

We have conditioned ourselves to work without God. We work as if we are on our own, like everything depends on us. We’ve turned God off. His light no longer shines where we work. We stumble, get disoriented, and oftentimes we hurt ourselves. It’s no wonder why work feels so empty and often causes so much pain in our lives.

But wait! We don’t have to leave God at church on Sunday. It is possible to bring Him to work with us on Monday and throughout the rest of the week. Jesus made it very clear, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10, NIV) It’s a life that leads to joy and fulfillment, and a power that comes from the desires of a loving and merciful God.

It’s important for us to include God in our daily activities – all of our activities, including our jobs. When things seem dark, remember to turn on the light! It’s much easier to see where you’re going when the light is coming from within you!

“God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:5-7, NIV)
