THE CANCER IS GONE!

“God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning – the sixth day.” (Genesis 1:31, NIV)

Patience

In today’s hyperactive culture, people seem to expect instantaneous progress and instantaneous results. However, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” Neither was Jerusalem. Neither was planet earth! In reading Genesis, I am reminded of how methodical, patient, and unstressed God was. He had an overall vision of what He wanted to create, He made progress one day at a time, and at the end of each day He expressed joy over what He had done. Day by day, the process of Creation took place.

As you may recall, I had surgery two weeks ago to remove a cancerous prostate. The doctor told me I’d be in the hospital on Monday and home recovering on Tuesday. “Piece of cake”, “sign me up”, I said. Two weeks later, I’m still recovering. This past Saturday was the first day I didn’t need my pain medicine. I now wear a diaper twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. We’re not sure if I will ever gain control of my bladder again. But praise God – the cancer is gone! It has been defeated by modern medicine – by technology inspired by doctors and scientists that have been infused by the Holy Spirit to treat various illnesses with as little risk and pain as feasibly possible.

Each day brings new success – not just for me, but also for you and whatever situation you may find yourself. Your success may not be as apparent as being able to give up your pain medicine or finally regaining your bladder control. It may be as simple as looking at a co-worker and realizing they have finally developed a relationship with the Lord because of the mentoring you have provided. Understand one thing; sin has been defeated (the cancer is gone)! Healing will take a lifetime! The question is this, “are you making progress?”

Spend a few quiet moments with the Lord to reflect on and delight in today’s labors. Whatever vision God has given you for your life, career, and workplace, He is methodically and intentionally working through you to achieve it day by day. Enjoy the process!

Have a wonderful day, “Working for Christ”!
