“A person’s steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand their own way?” (Proverbs 20:2, NIV)

There is a mystery to life that lies in God’s control and not in our own.

We know that there is a certain “being at the right place at the right time” aspect to life. We also know how other aspects of our lives have been determined by what some would call “luck,” others call it coincidence. Those of us who trust in the Almighty call it the will of God.

Whether we seem to be “in the right place at the right time”, or we feel we are the recipients of good “luck”, we must understand that our lives are determined by the choices we make – small everyday choices, often undetectable ones. No matter what choices we make, our course is set. When we become Christians our goal is to make positive choices for Christ and to create a pattern of choosing God’s will over our own.

In addition, we are required to be faithful: “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.” (1 Corinthians 4:2, NIV)

Being faithful is more that just having faith. Being faithful means that we develop habits that glorify and honor God in the way we live our lives. When we are faithful, we are able to fight through the mundane and stay focused on our primary goal – to become more like Christ.

There may be times when our work seems mundane, boring and unexciting, but remember, those moments – just like the good ones – belong to God. Chances are, He is preparing us for something that may occur months, or even years, from now. Trust Him and remain faithful. Make choices that will please God. If you do you’ll always be “in the right place at the right time” and you’ll constantly experience good “luck”!

So this week at work, pay attention to the mundane. God is preparing you for a special moment. Who knows: it may be the moment!

  4. Lyn Says:

That is a very encouraging post, Dave – thank you. Like Annie, I’m needing that right now. The Lord directed me to another wonderful promise too, in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

We never know what little things that we may take for granted today will be the keys for the future. It is true. I know there are times when I have to tell myself (maybe in my mom’s voice), “Amy, wake up and pay attention!” 😀 😀 Take care!
