“Then Satan entered into Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve disciples, and he went to the leading priests and captains of the Temple guard to discuss the best way to betray Jesus to them. They were delighted, and they promised to give him money. So he agreed and began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus so they could arrest him when the crowds weren’t around.” (Luke 22:3-6, NLT)

Judas was one of Jesus’ followers. He was one of the first Christians. He was selected by Christ Himself to be one of the twelve disciples. What happened to him? Why did he turn on Jesus?

Just because we say we are Christians, that doesn’t mean we are immune from Satan’s evil schemes. He is always looking for ways to bring us down. He was able to bring Jesus down (so he thought) even while Jesus was visibly present in his life! What makes us think he doesn’t have the ability to attack us whenever he desires? He’s waiting to enter our lives just as soon as we show him our weaknesses. He wants us to slip up, to succumb to his temptations, to accept an offer of greed, to follow him into sin, and to get us to deny Jesus at every opportunity. His desire is to get inside our heads just as he did with Judas Iscariot. We are not immune!

As we contemplate this Holy Week, we can’t allow Satan to enjoy any part of our lives. Our jobs present many opportunities for him to “sneak” in and find opportunities for us to betray Jesus.

Although we aren’t considered to part of the original Twelve, we are Christ’s disciples. The same Holy Spirit that lived in Christ Jesus lives in us. Because Christ lives in us, we have the ability to defeat Satan every time he makes a move toward us. We can prove that we are stronger than Judas Iscariot by keeping Jesus by our side wherever we go. He is our advocate. He has defeated Satan over and over again. Allow Him to show you how to keep Satan away! He is immune!
