Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm. The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!” (Matthew 8:24-27, NLT)

storms of life

We often feel like we are treading water in the sea of life. The waves crash against us. We feel as if we are going to drown. Just as we catch our breath, another swell crests and crashes down upon us. We find ourselves lost in the mayhem of our day.

You overslept. The kids are sick. You had an argument with your spouse on the way out of the door. Your ride was late. The computer crashed. The printer jammed. The order did not come in. The package did not get there. Your client decided to switch to your competitor. The company is downsizing. You just got stabbed in the back by a coworker. Your pen leaked. The prices just went up. The stock just went down. Your 401K took a hit. The IRS called. All of that before lunch. Or at least, that’s the way it feels.

Who really knows what you are facing today? Everyone else is preoccupied just trying to keep his/her own nose above water — much less worry about yours.

You are not alone. What you are facing has not gone unnoticed. You are under the watchful eye of the Lord.

What kind of man is He? He is the Lord of the storm. He may seem like He is asleep while your boat is sinking. But, really, He is just waiting to show you a miracle. What is that miracle? To show you more about who He really is.

Turn your life over to Him right now. He is the One who can calm all of your storms.

  7. Just read another blog post about how to handle life when everything seems a mess. Seems God is speaking to me.
Right now I feel I’m in the middle of a perfect storm. Honestly, too many enemies coming after me from all fronts. Reminds me of 2 Chronicles 20. All I can do is pray, praise, wait and trust God to sort this out.
Thank you for the reminder He’s the Lord of the Storm. He’s also the Lord of the Armies of Israel, who fights for us, and the Lord of the Shabbath, so He decides when it’s time for us to fight, and when it’s time for us to rest in His amazing power.
Let’s pray for wisdom to know how to handle our daily storms, the small ones and the big ones!

  8. Instead of waiting for the storms to pass, thank Him and go dance in the rain! It’s exhilarating. Play Beethoven’s Ode to Joy very loudly while doing so. And remember: things could be worse. They crucified Him!

  9. Blessings,

I found this truly inspirational and well written. I love this story, and I live my life by stepping out of the boat any time the Lord places a door in front of me.

We must step out side of our comfort zone to continue to move forward in this life by trusting in God. It’s the only way.

When you have an opportunity you should stroll through my blog and give me some feed-back.

    God bless you,

If Jesus doesn’t calm the storm, he accompanies us through it. I can’t imagine navigating through life without his love, peace, and strength.

Dave, I know that feeling….lol…. 😀 but also know that He is with us, calling to us, and calming our storms. There is no other way I would be here. I hope you are well. Take care! 😀
