Then He got into the boat and His disciples followed Him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” (Matthew 8:23-25, NIV)

Jesus had healed the sick from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan. He had driven an evil spirit out of a man in Capernaum, healed one man with leprosy and another man who was paralyzed. He had performed miracles in front of these guys for months. He was right there – in the very same boat with them – yet when the storm came up, they were afraid. They thought they were going to die. They were with the Maker of the Universe and they were afraid! Where was their faith?

Since then, Jesus has performed thousands and thousands of miracles. Some of them we have witnessed personally. Others have been documented throughout the bible and throughout history. Although we may not be able to physically touch Him, He is in our boat with us. When storms come into our lives, He is right there beside us. Like the disciples, we may feel like He’s sleeping or that He doesn’t care, but we are His number one priority. He just wants us to call on Him – to ask Him to “save us and keep us from drowning.” He wants us to show a little faith!

Sometimes the pressures we feel at work seem overwhelming. Our bosses can be demanding. Deadlines need to be met. Customers need to be satisfied. There just isn’t enough time in the day, the week, or the month. If you really think about it, usually, we place these pressures on ourselves.

It’s comforting to know that the very same Jesus that was in the boat with His disciples – the very same Jesus that arose from the dead after three long days – is right here, right now! There is absolutely nothing that can come between you and Him that can hurt you in any way. He knows the storms that are present in your life. Call out to Him. Let Him know you need Him. He won’t let the waves take you down!
